The following information is correct to the best of our knowledge and subject to change without notice. The reports of incompatibilities contained in this document are listed here only as a guideline and the problems associated with these incompatabilities may not appear with your particular system.
Known Problems

• System 7 Finder
Do not do a Fax "Page Setup" from the Finder under System 7. If you do, your Mac will crash. The problem is that the System 7 Finder does not have enough memory to load the FaxPrint driver and all of its resources. Although the driver failed to load correctly, the "Page Setup" processing continues as if everything was OK. The Mac eventually crashes. If you still want to do this, you must increase the memory allocation for the Finder. You can do this by inserting the DoveFax installation disk, double-clicking on the Installer icon, Selecting the "Customize" option, and selecting the Installer option for increasing the Finder memory for their particular system (System 6 or 7). Click "Quit" when done, and restart your Mac.
• 32 Bit Mode
The FaxPrint printer driver is not 32 bit clean and will not run correctly if the Macintosh is in 32 Bit mode. This software is licensed from another company and we are working with them to get the problem corrected.
CPU Incompatibility

• Daystar 50MHz
Reported problems with this and other high clock-rate accelerator boards.
• Radius Rocket
Does not run with Radius Rocket. The Rocket moves memory at certain times when it shouldn’t. Radius has been made aware of the problem.
Software Incompatibility
-----------------------
• Adobe Illustrator
Does not image well to non-PostScript devices (makes bad printing assumptions). Since the DoveFax print driver is NOT a PostScript print interface, the FAX output from Illustrator is not very clean and limited to 72dpi. Users may try "Freedom of the Press" to translate the PostScript for faxing.
• AutoMac Macro
Not compatible. Transmission will start, then lock up the Mac.
• BackFax
Will not receive our faxes, although it sends to us okay. This problem has been identified and is being addressed by Solutions, Inc.
• CAT 3.0
There is a printing problem with CAT related to mailmerge and styled text.
• CE Toolbox 1.4
INIT will not load.
• CE Toolbox 2.0
Will work if this INIT loads after the DoveFax.
• Color Finder
Not compatible. Cdev 1989, shareware. When this is installed it prevents the FaxMonitor from loading. The computer will not start, and depending on the System, an error message may occur saying a coprocessor is not installed.
• DaynaFiles
Some customers report with this INIT installed , no INITs that would normally load after FaxMonitor will load. This may depend on the version.
• DeskPaint
Printing from DeskPaint when having low memory problems will cause the Mac to crash.
• Design Studio 2
This version has color separation capability - uses only postscript. Must save as a PICT file before faxing.
• Disk Doubler INIT3.0
Compresses files. Reported problems with fax transmission when this is running. Salient Software is working on this. Do not compress fax files.
• DiskLight
Not compatible. May cause the computer to freeze after sending a fax. It can cause random crashes and RAM to be trashed. Norton is working on a fix.
• DiskLock 1.01
Has problems with the fax driver. Causes random hangs in Serial Character Waiting. DiskLock also leaves info volume behind when it is removed - it is in the form of a hidden INIT.
6/20/91: 5th Generation reports - need fax confirmation off or cannot lock screen without a password.
• Eyeballs INIT
Not compatible. Fax Schedule text distorted.
• FileSaver
One customer has reported this INIT corrupts FaxMonitor, another reports no problems! This INIT allows items thrown in the trash to be recovered.
• 4th Dimension
When sending a multiple page fax, a destination is attached only to the first page. Thereafter, each page has to have the destination entered manually. An external called 4D Write does the printing correctly and will resolve this problem.
• Full Impact 2.0
Images blank pages. The problem lies with the way Claris identifies our print driver (as a Laserwriter, thus assuming it sends postscript). Users may try Freedom of the Press to translate the PostScript for faxing.
• FullPaint
Not compatible.
• Grappler
This is a print spooler from OrangeMicro which gives a Macintosh interface to a parallel printer. It must be turned off when sending a fax or else the Mac will bomb.
• hierDA
On a Plus or SE with the DoveFax, Mac crashes or hangs up.
• Hypercard
Does not bring up the print dialogue box when faxing, therefore the send has to be completed through FaxManager. Also, the Phone dialer does not close the serial port, so the modem will not automatically switch back to Fax or Voice mode.
• Kensington Track Ball
One customer reports that he cannot open the New Individual in the phonebook. This is probably due to the fact that he has the mouse speed too fast. Others report compatibility.
• MacDraw
Does not allow low resolution printing . MacDraw II okay.
• MacPaint 2.0
Bug in MacPaint. Does not handle cancelling printing well. Leaves dialog on the screen. Reported bus errors on an SE30 when printing through FaxPrint.
• MacPassword
Not compatible. Causes the Mac to crash when trying to send a fax.
• MacroMaker 1.02
Must load before the DoveFax INIT.
• MicroMax INIT
A customer reports this INIT for a large screen display on an SE prevents the DoveFax INIT from appearing on the screen during boot. However, the DoveFax functions properly.
• MicroSoft Excel 1.0
Not compatible. Memory and print errors. Later versions okay.
• MicroSoft Excel 1.5, 2.0
If using a Macro string when a fax is coming in will cause freezing.
• MicroSoft Word 3.0
Does not bring up print dialogs. Hold down the shift key while selecting print or page setup. Fixed by Microsoft 4.0.
• MicroSoft Word 3.1
Does not work.
• MicroSoft Word 4.0
Menu font bug - menus changed to Geneva randomly. Appears to be a bug in Notification Manager.
• MicroSoft Works 1.0
Not compatible.
• MiniWriter v1.6 Corrupts FaxPrint.
Cannot access phonebook or fax with this application.
• Mouse II INIT
Not compatible. When accessing Setup in FaxPrint Chooser disappears.
• Multi-Ad Creator 2.5
This application produces primarily PostScript output so FaxPrint (which does not handle PostScript) doesn’t work well with it. Users may try Freedom of the Press to translate the PostScript for faxing.
• nVir virus
Not compatible. Can cause the Finder to crash and restart constantly or crash the Mac
if either the FaxStatus or the QuickFax DA's are open.
• On Location 1.0.2
Not compatible if Background Indexing is ON, Mac locks up as soon as fax is sent.
• PageMaker 2.0
Not compatible.
• PageMaker 3.0.1
Bug in printing, fixed in 3.0.2, doesn’t allow low resolution printing.
• PageMaker 4.0
Tracking must be off. It messes up line reconstruction by stripping space between characters.
• Panorama
Leaves the serial port open. Manually switch to data mode to avoid this.
• PenWk TabletStarter
Will open the modem port at startup regardless of whether the “tablet” is connected to the computer (graphics tablet.).The cdev needs to be set to None, and the Mac shut down to switch cables in the modem port for the DoveFax to load at startup.
• Quark XPress 2.12
Doing a Page Setup causes an unimplemented instruction in FaxPrint.
• Quark XPress 3.0
08/91: Quark has corrected the problem w/v3.1 due for release soon.
12/90: This program works as long as no Color Graphics are used and Tracking is turned OFF. There is a problem we are working on with Quark.
• Quicken 1.55
Problems may occur when using FaxPrint, the “fix” is to allocate more memory to the product. This problem occurs because Quicken modifies the grow zone procedure.
• QuickKeys 1.1
Not compatible. Later versions work fine.
• QuickLink II
Leaves the serial port open. Manually switch to data mode to avoid this.
• Quickspool
Not compatible. Causes Mac to freeze when sending. From GCC Technologies.
• Ragtime
Check to see if adequate memory is present. Also, if grid lines are present on spreadsheet you cannot fax (these lines are postscript).
• Red Ryder 10.3
Hangs MultiFinder layers so they can’t be switched if Red Ryder is run while doing fax transmissions.
• RemvInit
Not compatible. This INIT goes with the PLI Infinity Turbo Removable Cartridge Drives. It allows the user to activate the external SCSI drive without having to reboot. Causes the fax to freeze mid-page one during transmission.
• Scroll Limit 1.1
When installed using the setup button in the Chooser will cause the Mac to hangup and close.
• Second Sight
Need pin eight of our cable connected in order for Host BBS to hang-up. Call for RMA#.
• Sharpen Up 1.02
Not compatible. Conflict with our print driver.
• SmartCom II
Must use the "Reduced AT Command Set". Select from SmartComm setup menu.
• Suitcase II 1.2.8
Not compatible. Causes system to freeze when accessing Chooser.
• Suitcase II 1.2.9
Not compatible on an SE30. 5th Generation Systems looking into this.
• SuperLaserSpool 2.02
Not compatible. Can receive but not send with SLS installed. SLS grabs the Macintosh printer interface in a way which makes it impossible to have the DoveFax print driver execute properly. Deinstalling SLS eliminates this problem. 5th Generation Systems is working on this.
• SuperSpool 4.0
Not compatible. Causes DoveFax INIT not to load. 5th Generation Systems is working on this.
• SuperPaint 1.0
Will not read a very large export file (rec’d files).
• Tempo II
Not compatible. Tempo people working on this. According to STF we are compatible, but you must have real time mode in Tempo II when dragging a destination to the Send to: box.
• Timbuktu Remote
Not compatible. On second call, the modem will not work. DoveFax grabs the modem after the 1st phone call hangs up.
06/91: 5th Generation reports - Timbuktu works with “generic modem” and no fax confirmation is selected.
• Typist
Not compatible. Causes -36 error codes in the Activity Log file.
• VersaLink ATX300
Does not work. This is a computerized call processor.
• Voice Control 1.0
Not compatible.
• WaCom Digitizer INIT
Not compatible.
• WDEF virus
Not compatible. Can cause -36 error code in Activity Log when sending.
• WhiteKnight < 11.12

Low memory printing can yield blank pages. This can also happen when printing to a laserwriter. Increase the memory allocation for the WordPerfect application.

Not compatible. Word Perfect Corp. has corrected the problem. Version 2.0.2 should be released August 1991.

Bad printing assumptions.
The following are known phone line managers that work:
Apple System's 6.0.3, 6.0.4, 6.0.5, 6.0.7 and 7.0 are compatible.
The following INITs are for sharing serial ports, though they may work, they may not be considered reliable. We do not support this configuration.

The DoveFax modem does not support serial hard drives. As you may be aware, the DoveFax software is very timing dependent. The serial drive is unable to handle the number of calls we make to disk in the time frame required, thus fax time-outs occur.
The DoveFax Desktop is compatible with the Outbound Portable and the DynaMac Portable.
The DoveFax modems will work with the QuadraLink serial card and the MaraThon MultiComm card.
